About the Workshop and the Instructor
February 24: First Steps, First Stitch with Pojagi (보자기)
Introduction to basic sewing and plain pojagi: "Catch" stitch(감침질), "Pick" stitch (세땀상침질), "Bat" knots decoration (박쥐장식)

March 3: The Art of the Wedding Wrapping Cloth (예물보/기러기보)
Introduction to Korean decoration techniques: corner decorative pattern (귀장식), "Wild Goose" knots (기러기매듭), "Pine Nut" decorative pattern (잣씨)

March 10: The Art of the Patchwork Cloth (조각보)
Introduction to Korean binding techniques (뒷감붙이는다양한 방식소개)

March 17:Secrets of the Trade: The Subtleties of the See-Through Cloth (깨끼보자기)
Introduction toadvanced sewing techniques (꺠끼솔,쌈솔)

About the Instructor:



Chunghie Lee is a fiber artist and writer who teaches pojagi at the Rhode Island School of Design.
Lee's authoritative study and original interpretation of the art of pojagi and other traditional Korean wrapping cloths, has inspired various wall pieces, sculptures and wearable works. She has lectured and exhibited extensively throughout Europe, Asia and the United States.

She was a guest designer and lecturer for the "Fashion in Motion" program of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London in April 2001. Her works have appeared in many major publications and have been featured on the covers of Ornament (Summer 1996), Fiberarts (March/April 1996), Surface Design Journal (Fall 1999) and Textile Forum (Germany. 4/1999). Lee were also featured in TechnoTextiles: Revolutionary Fabrics for Fashion and Design (Thames and Hudson, London, 1998), in the 2000 International Designer's Yearbook (London). Her artwork is on display in the collections of many institutions and museums including the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Kwangju Costume Museum in Korea.

She received her BFA and MFA degrees from Hongik University, and was a Fulbright Exchange Scholar to Rhode Island School of Design in 1994.
