The recent election of Lee Myung-bak as South Korea's new president has provided the United States an opportunity to revitalize its alliance with the Republic of Korea. Members of “New Beginnings,” a nonpartisan policy study group of former senior U.S. officials and other experts on Korea, held a panel discussion at the World Affairs Council of Northern California on June 3, 2008, to discuss the results of President Lee’s recent visit to the United States and of the prospects for forging a real partnership with South Korea.
