Dr. Changyong Rhee, Chief Economist for the Asian Development Bank, will unveil the ADB’s annual flagship publication, Asian Development Outlook 2012, at The Korea Society, on Thursday, April 19, at 8:15 AM. The report provides a comprehensive analysis of macroeconomic issues in Asia, with growth projections and analyses of 45 economies in developing Asia and the Pacific, including the People’s Republic of China and India.

Asian economies have been driving global growth since the 1980s, and their role is expected to be even greater in the future. However, global financial resources have in the past four years overflowed into heavily indebted Euro area countries, such as Greece. In achieving global economic recovery and sustainable growth, the role of the Asian economy is growing larger, and global financial resources need to be supplied to such emerging economies, which have relatively high productivity and demand much capital for their infrastructure investment.

Hong-Chul “Hank” Ahn, Commissioner of Invest KOREA, visits The Korea Society to outline the unique opportunities for foreign direct investment in Korea. Mr. Ahn will review the current investment climate, location benefits, promising industries, and high-quality human resources available to the foreign direct investor in Korea, and explain the services Invest KOREA offers to help foreign companies “land softly and successfully” in Korea.

Dr. Jong-Wha Lee, Senior Advisor to President Lee Myung Bak, and G-20 Sherpa in Korea discusses the challenges facing the Korean economy as a result of the global economic crisis. An anemic recovery in the US economy, slower growth in China, unresolved fiscal and financial issues in the Euro Zone, coupled with increased financial and trade linkages, have exposed fault lines in the Korean economy. Dr. Lee will discuss efforts to mitigate Korea’s economic risks and the important policy challenges that lie ahead in creating a foundation for stable growth.
