The Rise of Asia and South Korea's Quest for Wealth

The effects of Asia's extraordinary economic rise in the latter half of the 20th Century are well documented, but could the lessons learned from this period of transformational growth help emancipate the developing world from poverty, or even guide the developed world to increased prosperity? In The Miracle: The Epic Story of Asia's Quest for Wealth, Michael Schuman explores the jet-fueled economic rise of South Korea and eight other Asian countries to glean lessons with far-reaching applications.

Schuman uncovers the stories behind well-recognized trends, such as outsourcing to Asia; the transformation of South Korea's homegrown companies into global corporations; and the technological changes and global economic shifts that made an economic boom possible in South Korea and Asia at large. He also reveals the compelling human side to this economic story, turning the spotlight on the ideas and actions of the dictators and democrats, generals and technocrats, and economists and engineers who collectively elevated Asia to its place of economic prominence.
