I didn't get to see it last year in Pusan, but heard a lot of good things at the time: the indie production Breathless (똥파리), by director Yang Ik-june, is doing pretty well in the international film festival circuit. It won both the
top prize ("Lotus" for Best Film) and the International Critics'
Award at the 10th Deauville Asian Film Festival in France last month. It also won the top
award at the 38th International Film Festival Rotterdam later on. And that's not it: Yang, who directed and starred in the film, won the
award for Best Actor at Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and his co-star,
Kim Kkobbi, got the prize for Best Actress.
Yang plays the role of a dejected
man who rediscovers hope through a teenage girl - dixit the internet. Apparently, it's raw, full of sound, fury, spitting and swearing around. Which means there's a good chance I'm going to like it. We'll see...
