Current Work: Minsuk Cho

2010_10_12_webThe Korea Society and The Architectural League of New York welcome Minsuk Cho of Mass Studies as he discusses his firm’s current work and the design process in Korea. Founded in 2003 by Cho, Mass Studies posits “a critical investigation of architecture” to address mass production, intensely overpopulated urban conditions, and emergent cultural niches that define contemporary Korean society. Mass Studies acknowledges the frictions defining spatial conditions this century—past vs. future, local vs. global, utopia vs. reality, and individual vs. collective—rather than striving for a singular, unified perspective. With each project, Mass Studies addresses spatial systems and matrices, building materials and techniques, and typological divergences to foster a vision that realizes new social and cultural potential.
