Registration is now open to K-12 educators for Korean Poetry in the Classroom. This one-day teachers’ conference is a special opportunity for educators to learn about Korean culture and poetry. Dr. David R. McCann, Korea Foundation Professor of Korean Literature at Harvard University, reveals the unique correlation between 20th century Korean photographs and modern Korean poetry using the current exhibition Traces of Life: Seen Through Korean Eyes 1945-1992. Dr. Mark Peterson, Professor of Korean Studies at Brigham Young University, introduces the ancestry of the Korean poetic style sijo and how this art form can be used to teach about culture. Dr. Peterson also conducts a sijo writing workshop where educators personally experiment with this poetic style before bringing it into their classrooms.
