Embark on an exciting journey through Korean history as we begin our second year of the Korea In-Depth lecture series. This season, four well-known academics will discuss the role of Confucianism in Asia and provide insights on the establishment of the Chosǒn Dynasty. Join us as we discuss the Neo-Confucian transformation sparked by Korea's founding sages and soldiers.
Dr. Gari Ledyard, King Sejong Professor Emeritus and former director of Korean Studies at Columbia University, introduces the early scholars, sages, and soldiers that established the Chosǒn Dynasty (1392-1910AD). These founding fathers made daring reforms that would determine the destiny of Korea for centuries to come. As a prominent historian of pre-modern Korea, Dr. Ledyard continually contributes to the academic community through his writings and engaging lectures. His most notable publications include: The Korean Language Reforms of 1446 and The Dutch Came to Korea.
