Please join our Youth Ambassadors, friends, and family for the 2009-2010 Project Bridge Community Presentation. Eight New York-based Youth Ambassadors will share their experiences over the last six months, including stories from a 10-day study tour of Korea with their Los Angeles counterparts. Current New York City high school sophomores and juniors are especially welcomed to attend and learn more about how to apply to be part of  Project Bridge 2010-2011.

The Korea Society, in conjunction with the Los Angeles-based Pacific Century Institute, coordinates an annual year-long intercultural outreach program for high school juniors and seniors called "Project Bridge." This year, the program will select 16 students and two adult group leaders from New York City and Los Angeles to take part in a year-long series of bi-weekly meetings, a weekend retreat, and a fully subsidized 10-day study tour to Korea. Deadline for Los Angeles student applications is December 30, 2009. The deadline for New York Applications has passed.

Participants will meet regularly for educational workshops that focus on topics such as Korean history, language, folktales, architecture, and modern Korean society, as well as the 1992 riots in Los Angeles, which deeply affected the area’s Korean American community. Participants gain insights into Korea, learn leadership skills, and develop intercultural understanding. The highlight of Project Bridge is a fully subsidized ten-day study tour in Korea, which is held in April during the Department of Education's spring recess, and includes visits to numerous historical sites as well as a home stay with Korean high school students.

Project Bridge 2009-2010 is now accepting applications from high school students who will be juniors or seniors during the 2009-2010 school year. Space is available for eight students from New York City and eight from Los Angeles. A group-leader position is also available to a New York City high school teacher.
