Project Bridge 2008-2009 Application
  • New York Student Deadline CLOSED
  • Los Angeles Student Deadline November 19, 2008

Every year, The Korea Society, in conjunction with the Los Angeles-based Pacific Century Institute, coordinates Project Bridge: a yearlong intercultural outreach program for high school juniors and seniors. For Project Bridge 2008-2009, 16 students from New York City and Los Angeles will be selected to take part in a yearlong series of bi-weekly educational meetings and a weekend retreat that culminate in a joint 10-day study tour to Korea. The educational workshops will focus on topics such as Korean language, history, folktales, architecture, modern Korea and the 1992 riots in Los Angeles-known in Korean as Sa-I-Gu. The objective of these activities is to help the participants gain insight into Korea, learn leadership skills and develop intercultural understanding. The highlight of Project Bridge is a fully subsidized ten-day study tour in Korea which is held in April during the Department of Education's Spring Recess and includes visits to historical sites, the Demilitarized Zone and a home stay with Korean high school students.

Project Bridge 2008-2009 is now accepting applications. High school students who will be juniors or seniors during the 2008-2009 school year are eligible to apply. Space is available for eight students from New York City and eight from Los Angeles. A position is also available to a New York City high school teacher interested in working as a group leader for the program.
