In recent years, Korean pop culture has made an impact throughout Asia. It has made an especially large impact in the remote, Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan, where Korean music, movies, and TV dramas are proving to be more popular than their Chinese or Japanese counterparts.

Discover the roots of Bhutan's craze for Korean culture at a lecture by Dawa Lhamo, head of the English language program at the Institute of Language and Cultural Studies, Royal University of Bhutan. Lhamo will be speaking on Tuesday, January 26 at 6:30 PM at Columbia University (Kent Hall, Room 403).

This event is co-sponsored by the Center for Korean Research, Columbia University Bhutan Studies Initiative, and the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures.
