The Korea Society, a New York-based non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of greater awareness, understanding, and cooperation between the people of the United States and Korea, seeks highly motivated individuals. Segment Producer/Writer The Korea Society, an organization dedicated to the promotion of greater awareness, understanding, and cooperation between the people of the United States and Korea, seeks a full-time segment producer/writer to help create content for its media department.
The Korea Society is a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan, 501(c)(3) organization with individual and corporate members that is dedicated solely to the promotion of greater awareness, understanding and cooperation between the people of the United States and Korea. In pursuit of its mission, the Society arranges programs that facilitate discussion, exchanges and research on topics of vital interest to both countries in the areas of public policy, business, education, intercultural relations and the arts. Funding for these programs is derived from contributions, endowments, grants, membership dues and program fees. From its base in New York City, the Society serves audiences across the country through its own outreach efforts and by forging strategic alliances with counterpart organizations in other cities throughout the United States as well as in Korea. Internship, Korean Studies The Korean Studies department is currently seeking bright, enthusiastic, and dedicated interns to support education programs. These internship positions are unpaid with a flexible schedule. The Korea Society’s policy program division is seeking an exceptional intern with demonstrated interest and background in the social, political, and economic issues related to the Asia-Pacific, especially Korea. We are seeking an intern with strong research/writing skills and interest in the following areas: Migration, Development, Economics, Finance, Gender Issues, Trade and Diplomacy, and Security as it relates to the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia. Responsibilities: Tracking and researching current developments in and around the Korean Peninsula. Writing, editing, and proofreading event transcripts and summaries, and content for the Korea Society's website; providing support for all policy and business events and programs, as well as the national outreach program on and off-site; assisting with administrative and logistical duties as needed such as database management and outreach support for events; and attending and reporting on Korea related events, conferences, meetings in New York City. Qualifications: * Graduate student, or exceptional undergraduate student, with previous internship or work experience preferred. * Background in international affairs, political science and/or economics as well as an interest in Asia-Pacific issues, especially Korea * Strong research, writing, and editing skills with excellent attention to detail * Self-driven with a professional demeanor * Fluency in Korean language strongly preferred Schedule: Internships are unpaid positions. Candidates are required to commit to a minimum of 12 weeks, and two to three days per week, or the equivalent of 15-20 hours per week; evening availability once or twice a month for events. No phone calls, please. Internship, Development Department The Korea Society seeks multiple interns for Summer/Fall 2011 in its development department. The development intern will provide support for the department’s fundraising activities. Responsibilities will include: * updating and maintaining database records * researching contact information for individuals and organizations * researching new funding sources in the form of donor campaigns, corporate sponsors and foundation grants * coordinating and implementing fundraising events * preparing fundraising collateral * supporting the general operations of the development department * performing miscellaneous administrative duties Applicants for this position must be competent in using Microsoft Office applications and capable of conducting detail-oriented Internet searches. This is an unpaid position but is an outstanding opportunity for someone interested in learning about nonprofit development and fundraising. Class credit available. INTERNSHIP, General These internships afford unique opportunities to understand the inner-workings of a non-profit organization, and learn and contribute to the social, cultural, economic, political, and security dimensions of the U.S.-Korea relationship. The work schedule is flexible and will be discussed during the interview. This is an unpaid internship and that class credit is provided is applicable.
