On October 13, 2011, President Barack Obama will welcome President Lee Myung-bak of the Republic of Korea to the White House for an official State Visit. President Lee will be the fifth head of state to make a State Visit under the Obama Administration.
The State Visit by President Lee is rightly expected to be a celebration of the closeness of the U.S.-Korea Alliance. If the KORUS FTA is ratified by the U.S. Congress in time for the visit, the focus will be on next steps for the economic partnership. If on the other hand, the FTA has not been passed, the conversation will be on less visible issues such as missile defense, the nuclear cooperation agreement, Global Korea, and next steps regarding North Korea.
Please join CSIS, Korea Economic Institute and The Korea Society for a discussion on all aspects of the Obama-Lee State Visit.
