Ties that Bind: Facilitating Peace on the Korean Peninsula

Small and medium-power states enjoy active, though often overlooked, relations on the Korean Peninsula and have potential to reinforce progress made by larger powers and foster new approaches to the Korean Peninsula.  In confidence-building, agriculture, energy and environmental management, nations like Mongolia, Australia and New Zealand may strike at solutions that facilitate Korean integration.  Korea and Mongolia share historical, cultural and linguistic ties, as well as dynamic contemporary relations, and Ulaanbaatar enjoys close ties with both Seoul and Pyongyang.

Join us for a breakfast briefing and discussion with His Excellency Damdin Tsogtbaatar, as he explores relations with both South Korea and North Korea and new initiatives for the Korean Peninsula in human and cultural exchange and in confidence building.  He will explore aspects of new democracy cooperation, Mongolia’s nuclear weapons free zone status and implications for the Korean Peninsula, and Mongolia’s potential role as a model for DPRK economic reform.
