Student Ambassador Workshop

December 11, 2009

Evans J.R. Revere, president of The Korea Society, spoke to 600 students about Asia and Korea at the East-West School of International Studies in Flushing, New York on December 11. After a tour of the school that included a Korean drumming demonstration by students, Revere met with 16 student ambassadors who were studying Chinese, Japanese and Korean. Revere, who is fluent in all three languages, discussed his 35-year career as an American diplomat and one of the U.S. Department of State's leading Asia experts. Revere answered student questions and encouraged them to continue their studies. Teachers reported that the visit had been inspirational for a number of students. One student wrote: "I am very thankful for this invaluable opportunity to listen to your experiences and challenges as a top U.S. official and diplomat. Your encouragement and appraisal of our foreign language education inspired me to dedicate myself even more to developing a fluent level of the Korean language."
