Sophia H. Kang manages the Society's fundraising programs, special events, foundation/government relations, membership, and public relations. Prior to joining The Korea Society in 1995, Ms. Kang headed the SK9 Group, Inc., a multicultural public-relations consulting firm. From 1987 to 1994, Kang was deputy director of the Mayor’s Office for Asian Affairs in New York City, a principal policy advisor to former mayors Edward Koch and David Dinkins. She also served as New York City’s chief representative and liaison to the Republic of Korea’s business and political community. Ms. Kang is the author of numerous articles which have appeared in Chosun Ilbo, Joongang Ilbo, Women News, and other media. She received a citation from the Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea in 2005 and the Women’s Leadership Award from Women News in 2007. She attended Ewha Woman’s University, and received her BFA from the Maryland Institute College of Art and her MFA with distinction from the Pratt Institute Graduate School in New York.
