The Korea Society organizes several special events during the year to bring together its members and friends who share an interest in maintaining and enhancing the bilateral relationship between Korea and the United States. The principal events are the annual dinner and the annual golf tournament. While both events are focused primarily on fundraising, the events also have a significant programmatic objective each year. This is particularly the case for the annual dinner, which provides an opportunity for a high profile guest to address a major issue in the U.S.-Korea relationship.
A highlight of the annual dinner each year is the presentation of the Van Fleet Award to honor either a Korean or an American for outstanding contributions to U.S.-Korea relations. The recipients of the award include: former President George H.W. Bush, Samsung Chairman Lee Kun-Hee and former President Kim Dae-jung.
The annual dinner also presents an opportunity for prominent individuals to address the assembled guests. The distinguished keynote speakers featured in past annual dinners include: former President Jimmy Carter, former President Gerald Ford, former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, former President Kim Young-sam, former president Kim Dae-jung and President Roh Moo-hyun.
