Event Link: Byoung Chul Park is a master Korean calligraphist. Through his lilted phrase and poetic art, Park enlivens the intimacy of human experience and the hope that is found within. As an artist he strives to connect the two horizons of poetry and visual art. Many of his nationally acclaimed works have been chosen for textbooks in Korean elementary and middle schools. He has written three books on the shapes of hangul  and his works also appear frequently in advertisements, calendars, and other printed materials today.

Calligraphy using Hangul, Korea’s alphabet since 1446, has become a prominent feature of commercial art in Korea, with Hangul-based designs adorning fashion, advertisements, and movie posters. Master artist and calligrapher Byoung Chul Park will illustrate the beauty of Hangul calligraphy by demonstrating the convergence of characters and design. Participants, under Park’s guidance, will try their hand at Hangul calligraphy using a variety of styles and brushstrokes.
