2015 06 05  corperate-forum  icon2The IMF, following its February mission to Korea, found that, “Korea’s growth momentum has stalled somewhat during 2014 and the outlook remains challenging from both a cyclical and structural standpoint.”  Dr. Rhee, Director of the Asia and Pacific Department at the IMF, further reviews the economic outlook for Korea, as well as the other major economies in the Asia and Pacific region.

About the Speaker

Changyong Rhee took over as Director of the Asia and Pacific Department at the IMF in February 2014. Dr. Rhee has close to 25 years of professional experience as an economist, financial adviser, and academic. Before joining the IMF, he was Chief Economist of the Asian Development Bank (ADB). He was the Secretary General and Sherpa of the Presidential Committee for the 2010 G-20 Seoul Summit, as well as Vice Chairman of the Financial Services Commission (FSC) and Chairman of the Securities and Futures Commission of Korea. Prior to his appointment at the FSC, Dr. Rhee was a Professor of Economics at Seoul National University and Assistant Professor at University of Rochester. He was also a frequent and active policy advisor to the Government of Korea, including in the Office of the President, the Ministry of Finance and Economy, the Bank of Korea, the Korea Securities Depository, and the Korea Development Institute. His key research interests include macroeconomics, financial economics, and the Korean economy. He has published many papers in these fields. Dr. Rhee obtained his Ph.D. in Economics from Harvard University, and his Bachelor degree in Economics from Seoul National University.

About the Moderator

Alexander (Sandy) Wolfson is the Managing Director and Head of Global Country Risk Management. Responsible for assessing and managing country risk across Citi’s global franchises, setting limits on economic risk capital and cross border exposure, and running the Country Risk Committee which reviews Citigroup’s largest country franchises. 

Prior to joining Citigroup, he worked as an economist at the International Monetary Fund (1999-2005), working primarily in Indonesia and Japan. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
