Event Link: Ahn Sehong became interested in photography and started to document Korean traditional mask dances at an early age. His documentary photography has focused on the underprivileged: the disabled, comfort women, and victims of human rights abuses. He studied shamanism, Buddhism and folklore, and currently is working on a series of photographs comparing Korean shamanism with Japanese and other Asian traditions. He is the founder of the Juju Project, which highlights the historical record of comfort women, bringing Layer by Layer to twelve cities worldwide. Stephen Noerper has lectured widely on Global Korea and history and popular memory as part of his contemporary Korea classes at New York University and American University and for university and policy groups in New York, Korea and Northeast Asia. A fine arts photography enthusiast and collector, he's helped usher several The Korea Society showings, including Northeast Asia New (York). He also served with the Edward R. Murrow Center, and extends special thanks to the Korea Press Center.

TAPING SESSION ONLY

The Korea Society welcomes noted photographer Ahn Sehong to The Korea Society for a roundtable discussion on his exhibition Layer by Layer, currently on view at the Korea Press Center in Palisades Park. Ahn will discuss the subjects of his work, approach and global reaction in conversation with The Korea Society Senior Vice President, Dr. Stephen Noerper. Ahn's work has appeared in Seoul, Tokyo and Osaka, as well as the greater New York area. He hopes to take Layer by Layer to Paris, London and Berlin.
