Event Link: Korea expert, Pacific enthusiast and Russia's most eminent New York-based journalist, Ivan Zakharchenko reports for RIA Novosti. New York and UN Bureau Chief, Zakharchenko covers a wide array of international issues. He served with TASS in North Korea for a half decade, beginning in 1987, gaining extraordinary insight into life in the DPRK, and was Russia's first correspondent in South Korea after the Cold War. He has covered inter-Korean relations extensively. Having filed thousands of pieces for both Russian and Korean press, he went on to Australia, and from 2003 served with RIA Novosti in Japan. He holds a Masters from the Institute of Asian and African Studies of Moscow State University.
