Event Link: Y.J. Choi is a Distinguished Professor at the Graduate School of International Studies, Yonsei University. He served prior as the Republic of Korea’s Ambassador to the United States, and from 2007 until 2011 as Head of Mission of the United Nations Operations in Cote d’Ivoire. Prior he served as Permanent Representative of Korea to the UN, Vice Foreign Minister, Ambassador in Vienna, UN Assistant Secretary General for Peacekeeping Operations, and Deputy Executive Director of the Korean Peninsula Energy Development Organization. Ambassador Choi’s publications include Rapprochement Sino-Américain and East and West: Understanding the Rise of China. Chu Shulong is a professor of Political Science and International Relations at the School of Public Policy and Management and is the Deputy Director of the Institute of International Strategic and Development Studies at Tsinghua University in Beijing, China. Dr. Chu’s major areas of research are international security, U.S. foreign strategy and China policy, Sino-U.S. relations, Chinese foreign and security strategies, and cross-Strait relations. His most recent publications include The Sino-US Relations in the Post-Cold War Era; Basic Theories of International Relations; China’s Reunification Strategy, and The Peaceful Rise and Development: China’s Foreign Strategy and Policy. John Delury is a professor of International Studies at Yonsei University. Prior he was Associate Director of Asia Society’s Center on U.S.-China Relations, where he also serves as Director of the China Boom Project and Director of the North Korea Inside Out Task Force. He taught Chinese history and politics as visiting professor in history at Brown University and taught political theory at Peking University in 2006. John’s writings have appeared in the Far Eastern Economic Review, Huffington Post, Policy Review, Project Syndicate, Journal of Asian Studies, and World Policy Journal. He frequently appears as a media commentator. He is co-author of 2013’s Wealth and Power (October 2014 release in Korean). Zhu Feng is a renowned professor at the Peking University's School of International Studies and Deputy Director of the Center for International and Strategic Studies (CISS). He writes extensively on regional security in East Asia, the nuclear issue in North Korea, American national security strategy, China-U.S. relations and missile defense. He is a leading Chinese security expert and senior research fellow of the Center for Peace and Development of China. His books include International Relations Theory and East Asian Security and China’s Ascent: Power, Security, and the Future of International Politics, o-edited with Robert S. Ross. Han Sukhee is a professor of Chinese studies in the Graduate School of International Studies at Yonsei University and Director of Center for China Studies of the East Asia Institute. Professor Han was a visiting fellow at Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies of Chinese Academy of Social Science, China and teaching professor of School of Government at Peking University. His English publications include Public Diplomacy between China and the World, From Engagement to Hedging: South Korea’s New China Policy, and Alliance Fatigue Amid Asymmetrical Interdependence: Sino-North Korean Relations in Flux . Han Sung Joo served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1993 to 1994 and as ambassador to the United States from 2003-2005. In the interim he was the UN Secretary General’s special representative to Cyprus from 1996-1997, and a member of the UN’s 1999 Inquiry Commission on the 1994 Rwanda Genocide. Dr. Han is the former chairman of the Asan Institute for Policy Studies. He received his Ph.D. in political science from the University of California, Berkeley in 1970. Thomas Hubbard is forum chairman, chairman of The Korea Society and senior director at McLarty Associates, where he specializes in Asian affairs. A career foreign service officer for nearly forty years, he served as U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Korea from 2001 to 2004, and before that as Ambassador to the Philippines from 1996 to 2000. Ambassador Hubbard was a principal negotiator of the 1994 Agreed Framework and headed the first senior-level U.S. government delegation to North Korea. He was also President Clinton’s envoy to promote human rights and democracy in Burma. James Kelly is a former Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs. He served prior as president of Pacific Forum CSIS in Honolulu. From 1989 to 1994, Mr. Kelly was president of EAP Associates. Earlier, he served at the White House as special assistant for national security affairs to President Ronald Reagan and as senior director for Asian affairs for the National Security Council from 1986 to 1989 under Presidents Reagan and George H.W. Bush. From 1983 to 1986, Mr. Kelly was at the Pentagon as deputy assistant secretary of defense for international security affairs (East Asia and Pacific). Sung Yoon Lee is the Kim Koo-Korea Foundation Professor in Korean Studies at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. He is a Research Fellow with the National Asia Research Program, a joint initiative by the National Bureau of Asia Research and the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, and Associate in Research at the Korea Institute, Harvard University. He has appeared recently in The New York Times and on PBS television, as well as the BBC, NPR, PRI, CNN, ABC, NBC and elsewhere. His numerous publications include Dependence and Defiance: Historical Dilemmas in U.S.-Korea Relations inthe Korea Policy Review. Mark Minton is The Korea Society’s president and had a distinguished 32-year career as a senior foreign service officer. He served as U.S. Ambassador to Mongolia from 2006 to 2009 and was deputy chief of mission at the U.S. Embassy in Seoul. He served as the country director for Korea, deputy country director for Japan, as a Pearson Fellow with the United States Senate, and at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations. He spent a year as Diplomat-in-Residence at the City College of New York. Ambassador Minton received his BA in literature from Columbia University and Master’s degree in history from Yale University. Stephen Noerper is a Korea and Northeast Asia specialist experienced in non-profits, academe, the private sector and public service. He served with New York University, the U.S. State Department, Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies, and Nautilus Institute, among others. He taught at American University, the National University of Mongolia, where he was a Fulbright Senior Scholar, and Japan’s Waseda University, and was a fellow at Korea’s National Diplomatic Academy (formerly IFANS), the East West Center, EastWest Institute and Edward R. Murrow Center for Public Diplomacy. Scott Snyder is senior fellow for Korea studies and director of the program on U.S.-Korea policy at the Council on Foreign Relations. He is the co-editor of North Korea in Transition: Politics, Economy, and Society, and editor of Global Korea: South Korea's Contributions to International Security and The U.S.-South Korea Alliance: Meeting New Security Challenges. Prior to joining CFR, Snyder was a senior associate at The Asia Foundation, where he founded and directed the Center for U.S.-Korea Policy and served as The Asia Foundation's representative in Korea  from 2000-2004. He was a senior associate at Pacific Forum CSIS.
