Event Link:   Hon. Chung Chong-Wook is Vice Chairman of the Presidential Committee for Unification Preparation (PCUP), which was established by South Korean President Park Geun-hye in 2014 to make comprehensive and systemic preparations for unification of the Korean Peninsula. Previously, he was Senior Secretary for Foreign Policy and National Security to President Kim Young Sam (1993-95), Korean Ambassador to China (1996-1998), and a Professor of International Politics at Seoul National University (1977-93), where he is currently a Professor Emeritus. Dr. Chung was an Assistant Professor of International Studies at American University (1975-77), a Visiting Professor at George Washington University, a Freeman Foundation Visiting Professor at Claremont McKenna College, a Kim Koo Visiting Professor in the Department of Government at Harvard University (Spring 2011), and a visiting professor at the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore (2010-2011). In 2012, Dr. Chung was a Distinguished Professor of International Studies at Dong-a University. He received a BA in international relations from Seoul National University and a PhD in political science from Yale University. His book-length English publications include Maoism and Development (Seoul National University Press, 1980) and Korea’s Options in Changing World (co-editor, University of California Press, Berkeley, 1992). Dr. Chung received the Yale Alumni Award in 2007.   Kim Joo-Hyun is an advisor to Hyundai Research Institute and member of the Presidential Committee for Unification Preparation. He also serves as member of the Advisory Committee to the National Human Rights Commission of Korea, the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Federation of the Korean Industries. He was the President and CEO, after serving as Head of Business Strategy Division, at the Hyundai Research Institute. He was also a senior Research Fellow at the Coryo Research Institute. He received his BA from Sogang University and his MS from Iowa State University. He holds a Ph.D. in finance from Arizona State University. His recent publications include: Korean Capital Market (co-authored, 2014), Al Gore, the Future (translation, 2014), Winning (translation, 2005), Hub Korean Peninsula (co-authored, 2003),and 21st Century Corporate Board (co-translation, 2000).   Ha Young-Sun is Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the East Asia Institute. He is a Professor Emeritus in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Seoul National University. Currently, Dr. Ha is serving as a member of the Presidential National Security Advisory Group and the Presidential Committee for Unification Preparation. He was the Co-Chairman of the Korea-Japan Joint Research Project for a New Era, the Director of the Center for International Studies and American Studies Institute at Seoul National University, the President of the Korea Peace Studies Association, and a research fellow at the Center for International Studies at Princeton University and the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute. He received his BA and MA from Seoul National University, and holds a Ph.D. in international politics from the University of Washington. His recent books and edited volumes include Trustpolitik 2.0 on the Korean Peninsula: Complex Policy of Deterrence, Engagement, and Trust (2014), Toward 2020: Ten Agendas for South Korea’s Foreign Policy (2013), A New Era for Korea-Japan Relations: Seven Tasks for Bilateral Cooperation (2013),Young-Sun Ha on International Politics: A Collection of Columns from 1991 to 2011 (2012), The History of Social Science Concepts in Modern Korea I and II  (2009, 2012), Complex World Politics: Strategies, Principles, and a New Order (2012), Young Pioneers in Korean History (2011), The Future of North Korea 2032: The Strategy of Coevolution for the Advancement (2010), The Emergence of Complex Alliances in the 21st Century (2010), and A New Era of Complex Networks in Korea-Japan Relations (2010).   Stephen Noerper (host) is the Senior Vice President for Policy at The Korea Society. He was an Associate Professor of International Relations at New York University and taught on Korea at American University, Waseda University, the National University of Mongolia, and the Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies. He has lectured widely across Korea and internationally on Korean affairs and unification. Dr. Noerper served as a senior analyst with the U.S. State Department and visiting fellow with the East-West Center and Seoul’s Institute for Foreign Policy Analysis. A frequent media personality with numerous publications, Dr. Noerper holds an MSc. from the London School of Economics and MA and Ph.D. from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy.
