Frequently Asked Questions

 

1. When are classes typically held? 
Our classes are typically held on weekday evenings and Saturday mornings. All class times are based in eastern standard time/NY time zones. However, we do provide a range of class times to accommodate different time zones.  

2. Are the classes online or in person?
Most of our classes are held fully online via Zoom. You can join from anywhere in the world as long as you have a stable internet connection. We also offer a few in-person courses, but availability varies by term.

3. Are the classes live or pre-recorded?
All classes are live with real-time interaction via Zoom. Some instructors also provide recordings for students' review or for absentees.

4. How do I know which level is right for me?
We offer a free placement exam and provide personalized placement recommendations. For more detailed information, click here.

5. How can I receive the 10% member discount for the Korean Language Program?
First, if you are not a member please sign up for The Korea Society membership at the Individual level or above. Then, register for a course in the Korean Language Program. Once you’ve completed both registrations, send a short email to This email address is being protected from spambots. A 10% refund will be credited to your card within one to two weeks.

Note: Discounts are available for our 10 or 12 week courses, but not available for short-term or one-day workshops. 

6. What to do if I did not receive or cannot find the confirmation email which provides general information about my course(s)?
At the moment our confirmation emails are sent manually, thus it may take 3-4 business days after your registration for you to receive it. Also, you may want to check your spam or junk mail folders. 7. What is your cancellation and refund policy? 
Tuition is non-refundable after classes begin. There is a $30 cancellation fee for cancellations made prior to class starts. Cancellations must be made in writing and sent by email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Note: The Korea Society reserves the right to cancel any course due to insufficient enrollment; registered students will receive a full refund.

8. Can I transfer to the other course after registration?

9. What is your make-up class policy?
Make-up classes or issuing of refunds for classes missed for illness, emergency or events beyond the Society’s control cannot be accommodated. 

10. Is there a minimum attendance policy? 
No, but if you do need to miss a class we request that you inform your language teacher beforehand.

11. What is the best email to use when signing up for a class? 
Preferably Gmail as our teachers manage classes through google classroom.

12. Are there textbooks required for classes and where can I buy them?
Regular classes generally require a text which can be purchased online. However, for most conversation classes using a textbook. you can either purchase the textbook or access the free e-book, published by King Sejong Institute Foundation. After registering for a class more information related to required textbooks will be provided in your course confirmation email. Accompanying workbooks are not required, but you are welcome to purchase for additional self-study. 

13. Can I get a certificate to show I have completed the language class? 
A letter/certificate of completion can be issued upon request sent to: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Please note that you must attend 70% of your classes to receive this document and/or upon instructor's approval. 

14. Are these classes graded and can I get college credit for it? 
As our courses are non-intensive and non-credited, academic equivalent credit cannot be provided.

15. What’s the difference between the Regular and Fast-Track Classes? 
The major differences between Regular and Fast-Track Classes are the pace of the class and amount of content covered. Our regular classes cover half a textbook's material at a moderate pace, while our Fast-Track Beginning classes cover an entire textbook's material at an accelerated pace. Fast-Track Beginning courses are best for students with some prior Korean language background and/or those seeking a more intensive learning environment. Regular classes are also challenging and ideal for building your Korean language skills at a solid pace. 

16.Do you offer language classes for kids? 
All of our classes are for 18 or older at this time.
