On the afternoon of October 3, The Korea Society and University of Michigan’s Nam Center for Korean Studies held a university session on The Korea-U.S. Partnership, focusing on peninsular political security, business, and cultural affairs and Korea-U.S. cooperation. The University of Michigan's Ford School of Public Policy co-sponsored the event, and Dean of Public Policy Susan Collins welcomed The Korea Society Chair, Ambassador Thomas Hubbard and presenters Dean Alan Deardorff and Dr. Stephen Noerper. Ambassador Hubbard met earlier with Nam Center undergraduate fellows, discussing Korea and their leadership interests. The next morning, Ambassador Hubbard, Senior Vice President Noerper and Director of Policy and Corporate Programs Nikita Desai, along with Nam Center Director Nojin Kwak, visited the nearby Hyundai-Kia Technical Center. They discussed Hyundai's expansion, research and other innovations. On the evening of October 4, the Nam Center and the UM Screen Arts and Cultures Department, in association with the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and The Korea Society, kicked-off the Ann Arbor Korean Independent Film Festival. Dr. Noerper addressed Korea's growing cultural leadership and introduced Poongsan, one of four films showing from the New York TKS-MoMA Yeongwha series.
