North Korea's Launch: The Day After

The Korea Society's Rapid Reaction Podcast Recording - The Korea Society presents perspectives on North Korea's December 11, 2012 launch with The Korea Society Chairman, former U.S. Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, and Senior Director for Asia, McLarty Associates, Ambassador Thomas Hubbard; Columbia University Senior Research Scholar and former U.S. National Security Council official, Dr. Sue Mi Terry; and Stephen Costello, Host of AsiaEast, a production of the U.S.-Korea Institute at Johns Hopkins School for Advanced International Studies, in a discussion moderated by Dr. Stephen Noerper, Senior Vice President, The Korea Society. The group addresses the implications of North Korea's launch by way of capabilities, Kim Jong Un's leadership consolidation, impact in South Korea and on the election process, China's response and role forward, and challenge for the second Obama Administration. The discussion concludes with a cautionary against isolating further a self-isolating regime and suggestion that new approaches may be best advanced by Seoul's incoming President.
