ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Mayor Park Heong-joon, the 38th and 39th Mayor of Busan Metropolitan City, was born in Busan. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in sociology and a doctorate degree in literature from Korea University.

Throughout his career, Mayor Park actively engaged in civilian society. He served as Chairman of the Planning Committee at the Citizens’ Coalition for Economic Justice Busan Office (1995-1996) and as Executive Chairman of Busan Decentralization Movement Headquarters (1999-2005).

From 1994 to 1999, Mayor Park was a member of the Presidential Commission on Policy Planning. Additionally, he served as a Professor of Sociology at Dong-A University from 2002 to 2021.

In 2004, Mayor Park was elected as a member of the 17th National Assembly of Korea, representing the local constituency of Suyeong-gu District, Busan. He also held prominent roles such as the Senior Secretary for Political Affairs for the President (2009-2010) and the 29th Secretary General of the National Assembly Secretariat of Korea (2014-2016).
